The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, has rung the changes again within some regional and district commands of the Ghana Police Service. Major among the recent changes are the transfers of the Ashanti and Northern Regional commanders to the national headquarters. Commissioner of Police (COP) Isaac Ken Yeboah, who was in charge of the Ashanti Regional Command, has been transferred to the national headquarters as the Director General in charge Technical Services. DCOP Patrick Adusei Sarpong, who was at the helm in the Northern Regional Command, is heading to the national headquarters as Director General of Legal Affairs. The…
Vladimir Putin has been sworn in for a fourth term as Russian president and pledged to harness the country’s talents to “achieve breakthroughs”. Some 5,000 guests attended the lavish ceremony in an ornate Kremlin hall. He has been in power for 18 years, as president and prime minister, and opponents have likened his tenure to the reign of a tsar, or emperor. Russian TV showed Mr Putin, 65, leaving his Kremlin office and walking to the ceremony, down long corridors. He then took a short ride in a new, Russian-made limousine, called Cortege, in the Kremlin compound. Previously he and…
Wa All Stars coach Sarfo Castro has announced his resignation from the Ghana Premier League club. The former Okwahu United coach was appointed head coach of the Northern Blues last month. He replaced Alhaji Mumuni Sokpari. But after seven games in charge, the former Asante Kotoko assistant coach has relinquished his post. “It is personal,” he said in Twi on Onua FM on Monday. “There are no problems,” he pointed out. According to him, the bankroller of the team, Kwesi Nyantakyi, who is also the President of the Ghana Football Association, makes sure the team is provided every need. “I…
I met a young man last weekend― an ambitious young man. I had known him for a while and knew he should have been in third or final year in university by now. I probed into his academic life after we had engaged in a chat for a while. “Oh I quit school oo,” he let out loosely. “You what!?” I awed. “I had this great business plan and I think school was going to get in my way so I quit. After all, Mark Zuckerberg quit too and made it all the same!” he compared. “Mark quit but did…
Former President John Dramani Mahama says the time seems right for him to make his political future known to members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in particular, and Ghanaians as a whole. He says he has gone round the country and has taken in a common message many well-meaning party members have put to him. “And sooner rather than later. I think very, very soon, I will make my political future very very clear,” the two-time leader of the NDC told party supporters at the Upper East Region edition of the Unity Walk on Saturday. The country’s biggest opposition…
The relationship between physicians and patients is a fiduciary relationship. Fiduciary relationship is a relationship based on trust. In such a relationship, there should be confidentiality between the two parties: the physician and the patient. The physician – patient relationship is a central part of health care and practice of medicine. Having good communication skills is essential for physicians to establish good physician – patient relationship. This is in the sense that, good…
Polls have opened in Lebanon for the first parliamentary elections in almost a decade. The last elections in the country were in 2009, for what was supposed to be a four-year term. But parliament extended its term twice due to instability in neighbouring Syria, and to reform the country’s electoral laws. It changed the voting system, reduced the number of districts, and allowed expatriate voting for the first time. Hezbollah, the armed group considered a terrorist organisation by the United States and others, is seeking to increase its parliamentary representation. Voting for all 128 seats continues until 19:00 local time…
Ghana defender Baba Rahman returned to Schalke’s squad for their game at Augsburg on Saturday, more than a year after suffering a serious injury whilst on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations. Rahman, who is on loan from Chelsea, did not play in the 2-1 victory and has yet to feature this season after injuring his knee in January 2017. Schalke coach Domenico Tedesco, said Schalke are hoping to see the 23-year-old Ghana international back in action soon. “Baba is getting better and the stability of his knee is looking good,” said Tedesco. “He’s completing a lot of…
Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had emergency surgery on Saturday for a brain haemorrhage. A United statement said the procedure “had gone very well” but Ferguson “needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery”. The Scot, 76, retired as United manager in May 2013 after winning 38 trophies during 26 years in charge. He was at Old Trafford last Sunday when he presented Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger with a commemorative trophy. Ferguson’s family have requested privacy as he recovers in Salford Royal Hospital. “We will keep Sir Alex and his loved ones in our thoughts during…
Stoke’s 10-year stay in the Premier League has come to an end after they were relegated to the Championship by Crystal Palace’s second-half resurgence. Home fans streamed out of the Bet365 Stadium immediately after Patrick van Aanholt’s winner, with long-time chairman Peter Coates looking on miserably. The afternoon had started far better for the hosts. Manager Paul Lambert – appointed in January to turn the Potters around – had celebrated wildly with Xherdan Shaqiri after the midfielder’s free-kick opened the scoring just before the break. But James McArthur skipped clear down the left and side-footed home the leveller, before Van…
