The Minority in Parliament says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should dismiss the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, with immediate effect. According to the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, the report of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) clearly implicates Mr Ofori-Atta in the sale of the $2.25 billion bond. Mr Iddrisu said Mr Ofori-Atta should do the honourable by resigning his post. He made this demand on Wednesday while addressing journalists. Find his address below: MINORITY STATEMENT ON DAMNING FINDINGS AGAINST FINANCE MINISTER ON CHRAJ IN US$ 2.25 MILLION BOND INVESTIGATION INTRODUCTION. On 29th December, 2017, The…
The Bupei and Yapei bridges in the Northern Region will be closed on Thursday and Friday, the Ghana Highway Authority has announced. This is a temporary closure to enable asphalt overlay works on them, the Authority said in a statement on Wednesday. “The bridges will be closed intermittently from 7am to 1pm each day.” This comes barely a month after the bridges underwent a complete overhaul. They were closed to traffic in November, 2017 for works, a situation that caused uproar and the subsequent summon of the Minister of Roads and Highways by Parliament. But alternative arrangements have been made…
The Member of Parliament for Tempane Constituency, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, says work on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s ‘One-Village, One-Dam’ policy will begin latest by April, this year. He said he has seen documents to that effect and, so, he is saying that on authority. Mr Kpemka, who doubles as a Deputy Minister of Justice, said he can be taken on if the project does not begin in March/April, as stated. He gave this undertaking on TV3’s New Day on Wednesday while discussing the recent announcement by the Ghana Water Company Limited to embark on a water-rationing exercise. He said…
The two ex-Guantanamo Bay detainees — Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby – do not hold any Ghanaian passport, the Deputy Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister has asserted. This is contrary to reports that the two are in possession of Ghanaian travelling documents. The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako, over the weekend, alleged on Accra-based radio station Joy FM that the erstwhile John Mahama-led administration succeeded in changing the names of the two ex-convicts before issuing them with the passports, adding that the documents for the ex-Gitmo detainees were granted…
The Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Dindoick Kpemka appeared uninformed as he talked about the state of the coming in and subsequent handling of the controversial ex-detainees of Guantanamo Bay. The Deputy AG, speaking on the newspaper review segment of TV3’s morning show, New Day said he had no knowledge of the current state of the GITMO 2 as regards their employment. He was asked if he knew what job the former detainees were engaged in and under what law they would have done so. In his response, the Member of Parliament for Tempane said, “This statement…
Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew was on target yet again for Swansea City on Tuesday, when they came from a goal down to beat Arsenal 3-1. The win lifts the Welsh side out of the relegation zone for the first time in several weeks. Nacho Monreal opened the score for the Gunners – who stay sixth on the log – in the 33rd minute. Within a minute of Monreal’s goal, Sam Clucas equalized for the Swans, sending the spectators at the Liberty Stadium in raptures. A Petr Cech howler at the hour mark gave Ghana’s Jordan Ayew another opportunity to…
IBO referee Roger Barnor has defended his tenth round stoppage of the IBO Lightweight bout between Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’ Tagoe and Fernando Saucedo last Saturday. The fight drew controversies after it was stopped by referee Barnor, and eventually judged Game Boy as the winner. Tagoe was adjudged the winner of the bout despite most boxing purists claiming he had not done enough to deserve a technical knockout. The Ghanaian was visibly in playful mood with dancing antics in the ring while his decision to hit the back of Saucedo’s head also drew criticism. Saucedo also played his part in a…
Kenyan opposition leader Raila Amolo Odinga took an oath on Tuesday at the Uhuru Park in Nairobi to swear in as the ‘People’s President’. The oath was administered by one of National Super Alliance (NASA) Members of Parliament, TJ Kajwang. It is unclear what the motive of NASA is by this swearing-in but the General Manager of Media General News, Joseph Warungu, said it may be a subtle move to unsettle the Uhuru Kenyatta-led government and trigger some form of roundtable negotiations, possibly a power-sharing deal. ‘Unprecedented’ Speaking on 3FM’s Midday News on Tuesday, Mr Warungu said the event has…
The Births and Deaths Registry under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has been directed to accept the registration of names they previously deemed titles. The Registry came under public criticism for refusing to register certain names like Nana, Nii, Naa, Torgbe and other local names as well as foreign titles like Reverend, Dr, Colonel and Junior, claiming they are for chiefs – in the case of the local ones – and are not acceptable for registration under their laws. This provoked Parliament to summon the sector minister, Hajia Alima Mahama, and the registrar, John Agbeko, for questioning.…
Ghana’s first floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, FPSO Kwame Nkrumah, is scheduled to be shut down from Thursday. The shutdown will lapse three weeks after which the vessel will undergo another downtime, from Monday, March 19 to Saturday, April 7. These were disclosed on Tuesday by a Petroleum Engineer at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Albert Longdon. Engineer Longdon also indicated that there will be a third shutdown in November to complete maintenance works on the vessel. He said all these are efforts to make the FPSO operate at full capacity by the end of 2019. Contingency…
