A former Deputy Trades and Industry Minister, Murtala Mohammed, has lashed out at the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government over what he describes as the serious decay in security in the country. According to him, the security in the country has deteriorated to the point that vigilante groups could hold press conferences to threaten political parties. The former MP for Nantong Constituency said he has been feeling uneasy especially each time he was in Tamale, where “there has been rampant unabated armed robbery attacks,” something he says he wasn’t used to since he was a boy. Speaking on TV3’s…

The Irish government has agreed to hold a referendum at the end of May on whether to reform the country’s near-total ban on abortion. The vote will decide whether to repeal a constitutional amendment that effectively bans terminations. Currently abortion is only allowed when a woman’s life is at risk, but not in cases of rape, incest or fatal foetal abnormality. Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has said that he will campaign for reform. The ballot will not be on specific terms of any new law, but on whether to retain or repeal article 40.3.3 of the constitution, known as the…

Residents of Krowor, Ledzokuku, La, Nungua, Teshie and its environs have rescinded an earlier decision to embark on a seven-day continuous demonstration against the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL). Alternative arrangements were put in place – on Wednesdays and weekends – to serve consumers. The German government has denounced experiments funded by German carmakers in which humans and monkeys reportedly inhaled diesel exhaust fumes. German media say the health impact research was done by EUGT, a body funded by Volkswagen, Daimler and BMW. Such tests could not be justified, the government said, demanding details. A minister called them “abominable”. Daimler also condemned them. VW is embroiled in a scandal over software that gave false diesel exhaust data. In 2015 VW admitted having fitted “cheat” devices in the US that made their engines appear less polluting than they actually were. EUGT was dissolved by the…

The country has in the past three weeks…
A Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kofi Ameyaw, has admonished Ghanaians to support government in its fight to ensure security across the country.
