President Nana Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the Upper Denkyira West District in the Central Region, Daniel Appianin, was Wednesday confirmed as Chief Executive by the Assembly. General Electric (GE) announced on Thursday that it will supply the power generation equipment for the Bridge Power plant project in Tema, Ghana. The equipment, which will be used in the first phase of the project, will collectively generate 200 MW of power. An additional 200 MW of power will be deployed in stage two of the project. The National Organizer of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has discounted media reports that state transporter Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) is on the heels of the NDC over buses the party rented whilst in government. The party is alleged to have failed to pay for the services the company rendered it. Concerned Citizens of Talensi is calling on the Minerals Commission and Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to revoke the mining licenses of two small-scale mining companies in Gbane in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region. The two companies are said to supported by Shaanxi Mining Company, a Chinese mining company. The Minerals Commission Ladies (MICLA) says it is ready to bargain for a mutual agreement with the various women who are involved in illegal mining. A team of ODADE3 (Presbyterian Old Boys Association) walloped its Mfantsipim counterparts (MOBA) in an 111/2-81/2 win for the PRESEC-Legon boys at the Tema Country Golf Club on May Day. The competition, which was hosted by MOBA, was a much anticipated one for the PRESEC boys as this was their inaugural inter-schools golf competition. A mortuary in Mississippi is being sued by the husband of a gay man for allegedly refusing to cremate him because of his sexuality. John “Jack” Zawadski, 82, and his nephew filed the lawsuit after being told that the funeral parlour did not “deal with their kind”.
