US President Donald Trump has said he would be “honoured” to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, in the right circumstances. “If it would be appropriate for me to meet with him, I would – absolutely. I would be honoured to do it,” he told news organisation Bloomberg on Monday. The previous day he described Mr Kim as a “pretty smart cookie”. The comments come amid escalating tensions over North Korea’s nuclear programme. The White House issued a statement following Mr Trump’s remarks, saying North Korea would need to meet many conditions before any meeting between the two leaders could…
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched a scathing attack on the Akufo-Addo-led government on May Day, revealing that “for the first time in recent memory, Ghanaian public sector workers have been forced to mark this important day without receiving their monthly salary”. The opposition party says this year’s workers’ day celebrations have been marked in the face of several difficulties “which threaten the wellbeing of Ghanaian workers”. These were contained in a statement of solidarity released on May 1, 2017 by the NDC. It was signed by General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia. “The plight of the Ghanaian worker has…

He angrily confronted Cagliari fans, shouting: “This is my colour.” Speaking after the game, Muntari said: “The referee should not just stay on the field and blow the whistle, he must do everything. “He…

Barclays says its profits more than doubled in the first three months of the year, boosted by better performance across the board. Pre-tax profit for the first quarter was £1.682bn, up from £793m for the same period last year. The figure was better than analysts had predicted and comes despite a one-off goodwill impairment charge of £884m on the bank’s stake in Barclays Africa Group, which…

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines Joyce Aryee says the fight against illegal small-scale mining should not be directed at the labourers who descend into the bellies of the earth in search of precious minerals but to those who invest money into it. According to Ms Aryee, those who invest money into the unlawful act, by paying the illegal miners and securing equipment for the purposes, must rather be tackled. She explained that those who labour in the value chain do so because they want to earn a living and are given this by investors. Speaking…
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has found yet another evidence giving credence to its oft-made claim of chaos in the Akufo-Addo-led government. The evidence is the upside-down flag in a picture posted by Flagstaff House, the seat of government, during the short visit of Gambian leader Adama Barrow to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The flag, hoisted just behind the Ghanaian president, had the green on top of the gold and red instead of the red, gold and green layout. The NDC tweeted: That the Ghana flag is turned upside down is yet another manifestation of the chaos…
