The Minority in Parliament on Friday took exception to the new date on which the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic will rise as presented by Majority Leader Osei-Kyei Mensa-Bonsu. The Suame Constituency Member of Parliament, who is also Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, had announced that the 12th week of business will end on Friday, April 7. But Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu minced no words in his disagreement, saying: “We cannot travel beyond Wednesday”. According to the Tamale South MP, the Appointments Committee has agreed to sit on Monday and Tuesday and so Wednesday can be used to approve the…
FIFA announced Friday that it has completed the internal investigation it began in June 2015 after the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) and the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) announced investigations into allegations of criminal misconduct, bribery and corruption in world football. During the course of FIFA’s 22-month investigation, more than 2.5 million documents were reviewed and numerous key witnesses were interviewed. Using the evidence obtained from the document reviews and witness interviews, FIFA’s external counsel prepared written investigative reports on issues of primary concern to the Swiss and U.S. authorities. These reports, which total more…
She once pretended to be Sasha Fierce – so could pop goddess Beyonce get fierce again as a live-action lioness? It all depends on whether she’ll snap up the voice role of Nala in Disney’s upcoming remake of The Lion King. According to Variety, Queen Bey is The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau’s first choice for the role in his new version of the 1994 classic. Donald Glover has already been cast as lead lion Simba, while James Earl Jones will once again voice his dad Mufasa. Nala, you may recall, is the lioness who befriends Simba as a young…
I have observed with utmost disdain and utter disappointment, the deterioration of state security in this country. As a concerned citizen and an active one at that, I take delight in the call by President Akuffo Addo on us to be active citizens and not sycophantic spectators. So at this point of our state of insecurity, I wish to exercise my right to citizenship, by expressing my disquiet at the bizarre state of insecurity, intolerance, political thuggery and state sponsored terrorism that is speedily rearing its ugly but ‘fat’ head in our politics. My lens takes cursory overview of the…
The Atebubu Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has justified why party vigilante group ‘Invisible Forces’ attacked caterers, pupils and teachers of Atecoe Demonstration Basic School in Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo Region. The attack last Monday was said to stop the School from cooking under the School Feeding Programme. The party claims their government is in power so it decided to stop the cook, who is a known National Democratic Congress (NDC) member, from cooking, for an NPP member to take over since they [NPP members] have suffered and they must enjoy. There was drama and confusion on…
Ousted South Korean President Park Geun-hye has been arrested and taken into custody over a corruption scandal that led to her dismissal. The 65-year-old was driven to a detention centre south of Seoul after a court approved her arrest. She is accused of allowing her close friend Choi Soon-sil to extort money from companies, including Samsung, in return for political favours. Ms Park, who was removed from office earlier this month, denies the claims. She is the third former president of South Korea to be arrested over criminal allegations, Yonhap reports. The Seoul Central District Court earlier issued a warrant…
Pressure group OccupyGhana has called on government to take immediate steps to, among other things, stop the unlicensed and unregulated mining in the country. It says the menace, popularly referred to as galamsey, is a time time-bomb waiting to explode and such explosion may lead to thirst and the contraction of cancerous diseases. In a statement issued on Friday, March 31, OccupyGhana says it is declaring the month of April #RedApril, which will see members wear red each Friday of that month. “We encourage all well-meaning and concerned Ghanaians, throughout the month, to create awareness and speak out against Galamsey,”…
Last week Donald Trump said he was going to “come after” congressman Mark Meadows, the head of the House Freedom Caucus, if he didn’t support the American Health Care Act. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer later said the president was joking. No one is laughing now. The House Freedom Caucus, the collection of libertarian-leaning conservatives who helped sink the Trump-backed American Health Care Act last week, appears to be as much of a political enemy for the president as the Democratic Party. “The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don’t get on the team, &…
The flagbearer of the United Progressive Party (UPP) in the 2012 elections, Akwasi Addai Odike, says he will embark on a project to get four factories to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s agenda for a factory in each district. Mr. Addai Odike, who threw his weight behind the then opposition NPP ahead of the 2016 elections, said plans are far advanced to ensure that soon the four factories begin to create employment for the youth of Ghana. The UPP man made these revelations on Thursday on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene hosted by Nana Yaw Opare. Odike was commenting…
