The Vice President later in the evening addressed an assembly of students on campus. He told them how…
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured investors, both domestic and foreign, that neither his government nor his appointees are in office to compete for business opportunities with the private sector. According to the President, his administration is going to turn a new leaf in the way in which government and the private sector work, reiterating that “the private sector is not going to bring projects only for members of government and their cronies take over them.” The role of his government, he added, is “facilitating the business that you are going to do – setting good ground rules and…
Prime Minister Theresa May is to officially notify the European Union next Wednesday that the UK is leaving. Downing Street said she would write a letter to the European Council, adding that it hoped negotiations on the terms of exit and future relations could then begin as quickly as possible. An EU spokesman said it was “ready and waiting” for the letter. Mrs May’s spokesman also rejected reports an early election may be held, saying: “It’s not going to happen.” Under the Article 50 process, talks on the terms of exit and future relations are not allowed until the UK…
Ghana’s leader Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, March 20 led Ghanaians in Switzerland to observe a minute’s silence for victims of the Kintampo Waterfalls disaster. The disaster on Sunday claimed 18 lives with several others receiving treatment for various degrees of injury. Before meeting the Ghanaians, who came from Geneva, Zurich, Lausanne and Bern, President Akufo-Addo called for the tribute to the victims. “I don’t want to introduce a sad note into our proceedings,” he conceded. “Even though today is International Day of Happiness, something happened in Ghana which is a very sad occurrence for all of us and…
One could not have had a better understanding of the Nigerian proverb which says that ‘stupidity is the lover of ignorance’ than the crass foolhardiness exhibited by a group in Banda Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region. The group, Concerned Members of Banda Ahenkro, had pasted on the walls of schools and other buildings demanding that non-indigenes leave their district with immediate effect. Failure to leave would mean anything atrocious could happen to such stubborn non-indigenes. The aggrieved, unknown, and coward Banda Ahenkro thugs claim the non-indigenes have taken over their jobs. Hence, their call for them to leave their…
Pupils at Banda Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region will have to wait for another week before teachers can return to class for teaching and learning activities. This is because after stakeholders met on Monday to deliberate on the issue and how teachers and other government workers will return after the xenophobic threat, the Ghana Education Service (GES) told the teachers to wait until Friday, March 24. GES joined the security services and the Banda traditional authorities on Monday to decide on the appropriate time for teachers and other workers who fled the town to return. Officials of the Ministry…

In its decision communicated on Monday, March 20, Fifa’s Disciplinary Committee said Mr Lamptey was found guilty of breaching Article 69 of the Fifa Disciplinary Code. He is not to take part in “any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at…
The Minority in Parliament has joined dozens to express sympathy with families of victims of the Kintampo Waterfalls disaster that claimed 20 lives. In a statement issued on Monday, March 20, the Minority, however, warned journalists to be circumspect in posting images accompanying their reportage. Signed by leader Haruna Iddrisu, the statement urged government to demand full scale investigations and make same public and, more importantly, carry out a safety audit of all tourist sites “to forestall any similar future occurrence”. The disaster occurred on Sunday when students of the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School had visited the site after…

The Ogua Hall students were said to have prevented those from the three halls who were attending the hall week of Atlantic from entering their hall, leading to the riot which…
The Bank of Ghana has expressed happiness about the performance of the latest legal tender released onto the market. Though there have been mixed responses over the new GH¢5 notes, the Bank says the effort it put into campaigning for the acceptance of the notes is yielding positive results. The notes were released on Tuesday, March 7 to mark the 60th anniversary of the country’s Central Bank. “We have had very good response from the market,” said Bernard Otabil, the head of communications at the Bank. “That’s exactly what we expected,” he noted on TV3’s Midday Live on Friday, March…
