The appointments of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Chief of Army Staff (CAS) have been confirmed after a Council of State greenlight. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had appointed David Asante Appeatu, Major General Obed Boamah Akwa and Maj. Gen. William Azure Ayamdo as IGP, CDS and CAS respectively in the absence of a Council of State. The three had been acting in their roles, as a result. But a few days after the members of the Council were sworn in, the presidency released a statement confirming the officers. “The said appointments take…

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a smile must be worth a million. Smiling doesn’t just make us appear happier — let’s face it, no one likes a sourpuss — it actually makes others perceive us as more attractive, relaxed and sincere. And while that might be enough of a reason to start flashing those chompers all around town, teeth that are anything less than pearly white can make us a tad self-conscious about showing them off. Sure there are always whitening treatments, but those often come with a hefty price tag and can lead to major…
Zimbabwe has appealed for $100m (£82m) to help people affected by floods that have killed 246 and left nearly 2,000 people homeless since December. After suffering a crippling drought last year that left more than four million in need of food aid, heavy rains began pounding parts of the south and south-west of the country in December. Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere said floods had swept through villages, destroying roads, crops and livestock. The air force has transported some marooned villagers to safety. The rains have also devastated infrastructure: 74 schools had been damaged and 70 dams had burst, raising…

I have been following the Fufu controversy with keen ears and I must admit that my own appetite has been threatened by the challenging thoughts the old man shared. Pastor Mensa Otabil, a thought leader as he is, put a spoke in the wheel of many West Africans particularly Ghanaians. According to him he vowed not to eat Fufu and made sure, since then that Fufu does not find a way into his menu. He gave scientific and historical reasons which cannot be easily discarded as one of those ‘too known’ comments from another ‘educated’ African. And I am…
The woes of Great Olympics continue as they lost in their outstanding Ghana Premier League game against Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday. The Agorsu boys could not stand the wrath of the 2016 FA Cup winners, who had a dismal campaign in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup. Ivorian Ahmed Toure inflicted the pains on the ‘Wonder Club’, finding the back of the net twice in the game. Former Black Stars player Godwin Attram has come under fire for his side’s poor display on return to the League but the latest 1-3 loss will turn the heat…
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, March 2 to deliver the 2017 budget statement and economic policy of government. In what was strewn with Biblical references, Mr Ofori-Atta’s budget delivery called on all hands on deck to put the economy back on track. “The LORD did not give us a spirit of timidity,” he said in one of his many Biblical quotations, “and we must confront these problems by the spirit of power, of love, of sound judgement and of self-discipline.” He added: “This is a nation that God indeed has blessed”. The Finance…

Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Ken Ofori-Atta says the implementation of the much-anticipated ‘1-district, 1-factory’ policy is estimated to generate over 350, 000 direct and indirect jobs across the country.
