The US federal appeals court has rejected the Trump administration’s request to reinstate a travel ban blocked by a federal judge on Friday. The late night ruling means the travel ban will remain suspended until the full case has been heard. The court gave the White House and the states challenging it a deadline of Monday to present more arguments. Two states argued that the travel ban, affecting people from seven mainly-Muslim countries, was unconstitutional. In its appeal, the Justice Department said Judge James Robart had overreached by “second guessing” the president on a national security matter. It also argued…

Three each will be vetted daily from Monday up to Wednesday with two vetted on Thursday, February 9. Approximately 3,000 newly recruited officers of the Ghana Police Service have had their enlistment revoked. These recruits are said to have fallen short of meeting the academic requirements to be enlisted into the Service. The affected recruits include those under training at the National Police Training School (NPTS) in Accra and the Service’s training schools in Kumasi, Ho, Koforidua and Pwalugu in the Upper East Region. A letter sighted by 3news.com and written to Commanding Officer of the Pwalugu Police Training School by COP Beatrice Vib-Sanziri, the Director-General in charge of Human Resources, said all the recruits who submitted only…
The Public Relations Officer of Charter House, organizers of the prestigious music awards, VGMA, has called the bluff of singer Ohemaa Mercy, asking her to do whatever she pleases with her awards. This follows a fresh threat by management of the gospel artiste to return the awards due to a statement by George Quaye. Speaking on 3FM 92.7 in an interview with Miriam Osei-Agyemang on the station’s mid-morning show Urban Blend over the week, George Quaye was surprised at such a threat from the multiple award-winning gospel songstress. According to him, “to every artiste who has won a plaque before,…
When 3FM News Central Region stringer, Perry Baka, hinted a school building in the region had collapsed, I got winced and terrified. It was at the Jamra Methodist Primary School in Breman Jamra of the Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa District. Four pupils had been killed on the spot and two others died when rushed to the hospital. It was Tuesday morning January 31, 2017. I had not an iota of courage to download pictures he sent which told the story of the tragic incident. ‘How would parents of these kids receive this breaking news’? I quizzed myself. I have read and…
An Alain Traoré freekick in the last-minute clinched the Bronze medal for the Stallions of Burkina Faso at the expense of the Black Stars in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. The match played on Saturday at the Stade de Port-Gentil was the third-place playoff of the tournament. Avram Grant rung the changes with his predictable starting line-up, bringing on goalkeeper Richard Ofori for Razak Brimah. Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, who captained the side, Bernard Tekpetey and Ebenezer Ofori also started for the first time in the tournament. Harrison Afful and Daniel Amartey kept their starting roles, making them the only two…
Chelsea moved 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League with a comfortable win over Arsenal. Marcos Alonso opened the scoring from close range when he headed in the rebound after Diego Costa’s effort hit the crossbar. The Blues doubled their lead seven minutes after the break when Eden Hazard tucked the ball past Petr Cech after a fantastic individual run which began on the halfway line. Cesc Fabregas put the game beyond his former club when he lobbed past Cech after a poor clearance. Olivier Giroud scored a late consolation goal for the visitors, who are now…
Pupils of Goo-Atanda Primary and Kindergarten School in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region learn under very harsh conditions like learning under trees and dilapidated structures, a situation that poses danger to their lives. The School was originally established for orphans but currently has other children due to lack of primary school in the community. The school was established by a resident, Julius Ayamga Pascal, in August 2015 when he realized that the only available school in the Goo-Atanda electoral area was about eight kilometers apart between Atanda and Goo, creating non-interest in hundreds of children. After just…
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has descended heavily on the recent announcement by government on the formation of a joint task force to retrieve all state assets in the custody of individuals, especially former government appointees. The statement from the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, said the task force will be composed of officers from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Revenue Authority (Customs Division), the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), the Driver and Vehicles Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Office of the President. But a statement issued by NDC’s General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia on Saturday said the task…
The Black Stars will play for Bronze on Saturday, February 4 when they play neighbours Burkina Faso in the third-place playoffs of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. The Stars return to their group-stage base Port-Gentil, having made rounds in Oyem and Franceville in their quarter-final and semi-final matches respectively. Avram Grant’s side will play familiar foes Burkina Faso, who missed a second final in four years on penalties to Egypt. The Stars also failed to reach a second successive final after losing to two late goals from Cameroon last Thursday. Saturday’s match will be officiated by Algerian Mehdi Abid…
