Bunkurugu District in the Northern Region has been under curfew for the past three years as a result of protracted chieftaincy disputes between the Jamong and the Jafack families. The chieftaincy disputes have led to loss of properties and about 28 lives. A blood burial ceremony has been held to end the conflict though there is said to exist mistrust among feuding parties.
