Some 200 West African soldiers, mainly from Nigeria and Ivory Coast, are in Benin to support the government following Sunday’s failed coup, Benin’s foreign minister says. The attempt was foiled after Nigeria deployed fighter jets to drive the mutineers out of a military base and state TV headquarters, where they had declared a takeover. An Accra High Court has given the go-ahead to the family of late Highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, to hold his funeral rites as scheduled. The family had made preparations for the funeral to be held on Saturday, December 13 but was stopped after the Court earlier Friday ruled that the immediate family be involved in the planning process. The Accra High Court, which ruled on Friday morning that the family of late Highlife musician Daddy Lumba should meet and settle on a new date for his funeral, has reviewed its decision. The Court has asked the plaintiffs to pay Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu GH¢2 million by 2pm, failure of which the body should be released for the funeral tomorrow, Saturday, December 13.
