A total of 88 incidents were recorded in the country in the month of October this year, of which there were 98 reported deaths and 167 reported injuries, the Institute for Peace and Governance (IPEG), a think-tank, has said. The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, who retires from public service today, has been given a two-year contract extension. The body in charge of the public health service in Zimbabwe has said that 211 doctors have been sacked this week because of their on-going strike for better pay. The doctors were “found guilty of absenting themselves from duty without leave or reasonable cause” for five or more days, according to a statement from the Health Service Board (HSB). Guidelines to regulate the operations of ride-hailing transport service operators in the country have been introduced by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) Under the guidelines, drivers and owners of Uber, Bolt and Yango vehicles are to pay a total of 120 cedis every year at the DVLA as vehicle verification and authentication fee. The Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) and the Coalition of NGO’s in Water and Sanitation (Coniwas) want government to address the low charges for managing solid waste in the country. Ghana charges an average 10 dollars in managing a tonne of municipal solid waste, a charge that is comparatively lower than the World Bank recommended fee of 30 dollars. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has revoked the licenses of 53 fund management companies with immediate effect. This is in accordance with Section 122(2) of the Securities Industry Act of 2016, Act 929. A lower court in Accra has ruled it has legal authority to remand accused persons in all cases, and rejected a request to stay proceedings in a treasonable case brought against a top Ghanaian police officer. Lawyers for ACP Dr Benjamin Agordzor on Wednesday raised preliminary objection, arguing the District Court has no jurisdiction to hear committal proceedings in a first degree felony case citing section 181 of Act 30 and Article 14(3) of the 1992 constitution.
