 A senior US diplomat has testified that the Trump administration threatened to withhold military aid from Ukraine unless it agreed to investigate Mr Trump’s leading US presidential rival. Bill Taylor, the top US diplomat in Ukraine, told impeachment hearings he had a “clear understanding” aid would be withheld pending an investigation. Mr Trump denies there was any threat. Public impeachment hearings will begin next Wednesday, with Mr Taylor set to be the first witness called. Lassa fever contracted from the droppings of rats, yellow fever from insect bites, rabies from dogs, bird flu and the deadly ebola obtained from monkeys, continue to kill thousands on the African continent. Congressional Democrats have announced the first public hearings next week in an inquiry that may seek to remove President Donald Trump from office. Three state department officials will testify first in the televised hearings, which have until now been held behind closed doors.
