Deputy Minister of Defense, Major Derek Oduro has called for international cooperation to protect shipping routes and marine resources in the Gulf of Guinea. According to him, the seamless nature of the oceans makes “it difficult for a single nation to do it alone”. The National Labour Commission (NLC) may be compelled to close down its office in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis if the government does not provide a new office for the Commission in that part of the country, the Executive Secretary,Samuel Ofosu Asamoah, has said. Its Managing Director, Edwin Nii Obodai Provencal, said the institution is currently not discharging its mandate efficiently due to inadequate infrastructure and machinery. “We are not doing too well” he said, adding “the institution has for some time now failed to efficiently discharge its mandate. Physically challenged persons within the Tempane District of the Upper East Region have received support amounting to 237,809 cedis under government’s social protection intervention. Eighty-two of the beneficiaries received ruminants while 53 of them had farm inputs with others receiving tricycles and sewing machines. Some students with disability also received a cheque for 114,469 cedis.
