A 23-year-old driver, who had specialized in stealing musical instruments from churches in Kumasi, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court. Kwame Owusu is said to be part of a syndicate which have been stealing instruments from churches in Kwadaso, Ohwimase and Patase in the Kwadaso Municipal and Kumasi Metropolis. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was convicted on his own plea by the Court presided over by Mrs Mary Nsenkyire. Workers who turn 60 years from January 1, 2020 will no longer receive lump sum payments from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) under PNDC Law 247. Such contributors will now have to turn to the fund managers of their second tier contribution for lump sums. Researchers found that those who ate a daily serving of yogurt lowered their risk of the disease by 20 percent compared to those who did not eat yogurt every day. And people who ate a serving of yogurt a day – along with a high fiber diet – were able to lower their risk of lung cancer by more than 30 percent. Sixty-three tertiary students from the Salaga South constituency of the East Gonja Municipality have received a total of 43,000 cedis to support payment of their fees. Each of them received between 500 and 2,000 cedis. The East Gonja Municipal Assembly in the Savanna Region has presented 580 dual desks to the Municipal Education Directorate. The gesture, according to the assembly, is expected to deal with the furniture deficits in the schools across the municipality. About 60 percent of the total 150 basic schools in the municipality lacked furniture, necessitating the action by the Assembly.
