The number of illegal miners trapped in collapsed pit at Nsuta in the Western region has shot up to 17 from the original number of 14 that was earlier reported. This was confirmed by one of the miners who managed to make his way out before the pit collapsed on his colleagues whom he said numbered 17. Textile workers are threatening to picket this week if government does not stop the influx of imported textiles. The Trades ministry had earlier promised a June 30 deadline to come out with guidelines to regulate the importation of textiles into the Ghana. At least 14 persons are feared dead when a mining pit collapsed on them on Sunday in the Western Region. The Nsuta District Police Command confirmed that the trapped were among 19 miners when the incident happened following a downpour. Five persons however managed to escape the fatal disaster in a mine located at Prestea-Nsuta. Two of the survivors are currently being interrogated by the police whilst rescue work is underway for possible  survivors. A team of navy personnel have moved in to rescue the market women whose boats were capsized on the Bui Reservoir last Friday June 30. Official report from the Bui Power Authority (BPA), managers of the Bui Dam in the Banda District of Brong-Ahafo Region, however could not confirm the number of casualties.
