A total of 55 Community-based Health Planning System (CHPS Compound) are to be constructed in most deprived communities in the Northern and Volta regions of Ghana by the United States government. One hundred and fifty-five existing ones would also be renovated under the USAID Systems for Health five-year project. The Chinese government is willing to give Ghana a grant to fund its intended multilateral mining integrated project, which seeks to sanitise the small scale mining sector. An initial amount of about 10 million dollars is needed to be able to roll out the programme, and according to the Project Coordinator, Dr. Isaac Karikari, the Chinese government has indicated its readiness offer government a grant for the programme. A youth-oriented pressure group, Dynamic Youth Movement of Ghana, has called on the government to develop a clear-cut solution to resolve the issue of the over 400 unemployed nurses and midwives in the country. The nurses, who constitute the Coalition of Unemployed Bonded Diploma Nurses in Ghana, have been pressuring government to give them financial clearance to be posted to the various health institutions. Former Member of Parliament for Asunafo South constituency, George Boakye, who has been cited in a visa fraud case, has threatened legal action against the British High Commission in Accra should the Commission fail to reverse a travel ban imposed on him. The High Commission in a letter to the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament announced four legislators, including Mr Boakye, have been banned from entering the UK because they abused the privileges of their diplomatic passport.
