The Ashanti Regional sector of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority has made significant gains, recording excess revenue of GHC329.032 million in 2016. The sector was given an initial target of GHC285.640 million but managed to exceed that by June 30, 206 by generating GHC297.195 million. Government consequently gave the sector an extra target of GHC149.5190 million, thus bringing its overall target for the year to GHC435.15 million. A former National Security Advisor, Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah has lauded President-elect Nana Akufo Addo for the persons named to man the security of the country for the next four years. Nana Akufo Addo on Wednesday indicated the reintroduction of a ministry that was scrapped under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration – Ministry of National Security. Senior High Schools in the Northern Region are likely to give their students an extended vacation due to the non-payment of outstanding feeding grants by the government. The situation has compelled headmasters of the schools in the region to consider rescheduling Friday’s reopening. Government has failed to pay feeding grants for the first and second terms of the 2016/2017 academic year as well as the first term of the 2017/2018 academic year, the schools claim.
