The Premier League Board (PLB) has set a new date for the 2016/2017 Ghana Premier league which was earlier scheduled to start on Saturday the 4th of February. Confirming the date change at the media launch of the 2016/2017 league season, the vice chairman of the PLB, George Amoako gave Saturday, February 11 as the new date for start of the league. The Pharaohs of Egypt reached the finals of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after beating Burkina Faso 4-3 on penalties in the first semi-final match on Wednesday. The match at the Stade de l’Amitie had ended 1-1 after extra time and the winner had to be decided in the shootouts. Over the last few days, a bribery allegation has shaken the Appointment Committee of Parliament. The MP who made this allegation, Mahama Ayariga, (NDC-Bawku Central) has accused the Minister-designate for Energy, Boakye Agyarko, of passing a bribe of GHS 3000 each through the First Deputy Speaker, Mr. Joseph Osei-Owusu (NPP-Bekwai) to lure the minority side of the committee to approve him after they initially withheld his approval based on certain grounds. A high court judge indicted in Ghana’s scandalous judicial corruption has initiated contempt proceedings against the country’s chief justice for her attempts to proceed with impeachment processes against him. Justice Habib Logoh was in 2015 named among 34 judges at the country’s High, District and Magistrate courts for allegedly taking bribes from litigants to compromise justice delivery in cases before the various courts. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has arrived in Singapore for a ceremony at which the Floating Production and Storage Vessel (FPSO) to operate in the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) oilfields in the Western Region, will be named in his honour. A former Attorney General, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, has suggested none of the ministers designated for the various ministerial portfolios being vetted by the Appointments Committee of Parliament will be disqualified.
