Egypt has added ex-football star Mohamed Aboutrika to a terror list for his alleged links with the banned Muslim Brotherhood, his lawyer says. Mr Aboutrika is accused of financially supporting the Brotherhood, which Egypt considers a terrorist organisation. In 2012, he endorsed the successful presidential bid by Mohamed Morsi, a Brotherhood member. The move by the 2008 BBC African Footballer of the Year alienated some of his fans. Any person named on the country’s terror list is subject to a travel ban and faces having their passport and assets frozen. Mr Aboutrika’s lawyer, Mohamed Osman, said the move was “contrary…
The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has accused President Nana Akufo-Addo of surreptitiously promoting Mr. Yaw Osafo-Maafo into a Prime Minister position. The framers of Ghana’s 1992 constitution rejected the position of a Prime Minister in the country’s governance system, but appointing someone as a Senior Minister is a straightforward acceptance of that position, which contravenes the constitution, Mr. Ayariga explained. Summing his argument in a 6-page document to the President, the former Sports Minister believes the Senior Minister position is also discriminatory. “Why the discrimination? You consciously seek to elevate Hon Yaw Osafo-Maafo to a status akin…

Our great ancestors have left us a wonderful adage, “Wo ni wu a, w’abusua asa.” (“The departure of one’s mother to eternity terminates one’s blood relationships on earth.”). Your passing away leaves me homeless. I thank the Good Lord for giving you to me for 66 years as my mother. You have indeed been my all. You did not only give me life; you gave me life that is worth living. You brought me up in the cultural traditions of our forefathers. You gave me the best of humanity to make me what I am today. You were a beacon…
Bush fires have destroyed large numbers of mango plantations at Gushei in the Savelugu Municipality of the Northern Region. The cultivation of mango plantation was introduced in the Region about 15 years ago by Integrated Tamale Food Company (ITFC) with the aim to introduce another cash crop alongside shea production in the area. A visit by 3news.com in the area revealed that most of the mango plantations have been destroyed by bush fires. A former Assembly Member of Gushei, Adam Alhassan, attributed some of the bush fires to rodent hunters in the area. He said fire belts were constructed around…
Government has been urged to formulate enforceable legislations that would ensure that industries and companies would recycle organic waste generated by them. According to Safi Sana Ghana Limited, a waste to energy and organic fertilizer company, such laws would compel companies to sort their waste for recycling to prevent the indiscriminate dumping of organic waste. Fashion has definitely evolved over the years as this picture above clearly tells how much difference one can spot between men of the game then and now. Football maestro and Black Stars legend Abedi Ayew Pele, who used to ply his trade with Olympique Marseille in France, is spotted in this photo with national teammate Emmanuel Armah ‘Senegal’ and brother Kwame Ayew. These men back then had no competition and would have been described as the fashion men in Ghana football. The nation salutes its heroes who put the country on the pinnacle of football locally and internationally. These three…
