Ghana Railway Workers Union has praised the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for dedicating a ministry to the development of the railway sector. The President on Wednesday announced the second batch of Ministers at the Flagstaff House with the introduction of Ministry of Railways Development. Food Sovereignty Ghana (FSG) is kicking against the appointment of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto as the Minister-designate for Agriculture. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made the appointment of Dr. Afriyie Akoto known when some delegation of Zongo Chiefs paid him a courtesy call some few days ago. Ghana star Christian Atsu wants the Confederation of African Football to reconsider the timing of the Nations Cup because he feels it is affecting the key actors – players – too much. A Senior Lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Legon, has charged the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to create as many ministries he deems fit but must make sure those he places at these ministries perform to expectation. Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has said he will not step down before a Supreme Court decision on disputed elections, a ruling now not expected until May. In a nationwide TV broadcast, the longstanding ruler also reiterated his concern at “foreign interference”. Regional mediators, led by Nigeria’s president, are expected in The Gambia on Friday to urge him to accept defeat following December’s election. The Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will soon recommend to the Food and Drugs Authority to revoke the licenses of some sachet water producers. The research institute says it has identified some dangerous substances in 60 per cent of sachet water sampled in the greater Accra region. The council is worried that most sachet water producers do not come to CSIR to undertake testing of their product with the council.
