In the history of Ghana football, at least recently, Avram Grant’s is a rare case. When he takes charge of Ghana at the Nations Cup in Gabon, he would be the first coach to manage Ghana at back-to-back Nations Cups since the 60s. But he would be under enormous pressure too. With no win in five and against teams who have managed to get the better of the Black Stars recently, Grant admits his work would be cut out. TV3’s Michael Oti Adjei caught up with him at the team’s Dubai base. Q: You have spent quite some time now…

Food Sovereignty Ghana (FSG) is kicking against the appointment of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto as the Minister-designate for Agriculture. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made the appointment of Dr. Afriyie Akoto known when some delegation of Zongo Chiefs paid him a courtesy call some few days ago. However, Food Sovereignty Ghana says Dr. Akoto’s position on Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) does not qualify him to head the office as Minister of Agriculture. Dr. Akoto speaking on TV3’s New Day, in 2014, said he finds the debate over GMOs hypocritical. “Ghana imports 150 thousand metric tons of poultry products every year…
Ghana star Christian Atsu wants the Confederation of African Football to reconsider the timing of the Nations Cup because he feels it is affecting the key actors – players – too much. The midfielder was working his way up at Newcastle United but has had to leave club duties and focus on international football. While Atsu never considered turning his back on international duty, he says the timing of the tournament complicates things for African players. “I think this goes to CAF because they need to realise that when a player is doing well and goes to AFCON in January,…
A Senior Lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Legon, has charged the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to create as many ministries he deems fit but must make sure those he places at these ministries perform to expectation. Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah explained that Ghanaians will demand from President Akufo-Addo and his government what they want and if he [Nana Addo] believes creating more ministries will help deliver to Ghanaians, then he should ignore the criticism and insults and create them. Four out of the twelve ministries announced by the President on Wednesday are new…

Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has said he will not step down before a Supreme Court decision on disputed elections, a ruling now not expected until May. In a nationwide TV broadcast, the longstanding ruler also reiterated his concern at “foreign interference”. Regional mediators, led by Nigeria’s president, are expected in The Gambia on Friday to urge him to accept defeat following December’s election. President-elect Adama Barrow says he will be inaugurated next week. Mr Jammeh, who initially accepted defeat in the 1 December poll, lodged a case before the Supreme Court after the electoral commission changed some results. But the…

The Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will soon recommend to the Food and Drugs Authority to revoke the licenses of some sachet water producers. The research institute says it has identified some dangerous substances in 60 per cent of sachet water sampled in the greater Accra region. The council is worried that most sachet water producers do not come to CSIR to undertake testing of their product with the council. New director of the water research institute of CSIR, Dr. Ansah Asare has therefore threatened to ask the FDA to shut down those sachet water companies immediately. “If you…
