Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló has dismissed five government ministers. Ministers for defence, interior, economy, agriculture and energy were all dismissed in a decree on Sunday. No explanation was given for their sacking. Their dismissal comes ahead of a parliamentary debate on Monday on which political alliances have the right to govern the country. The Electoral Commission has announced a special arrangement for the aged and persons with disability as well as those requiring special needs to register in the forthcoming voters’ registration exercise. The Commission will from Tuesday, June 30 commence nationwide voter registration exercise for the compilation of a new register for the conduct of the December 7, 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections. A 63-year-old traditional guitarist (Gonje) Mahama Issahaku is in the grips of the Tamale Police after allegedly defiling three girls at Shishagu, a suburb of the Sagnarigu in the Northern Region. The ‘Gonje’ man allegedly defiled the girls at the same time. The girls (names withheld) are aged 13, 14 and 15. According to the Northern Regional Crime Officer Superintendent Otuo Acheampong, one of the girls is allegedly pregnant after the incident. Telecom giant MTN Ghana says it is suing the National Communications Authority (NCA) over the regulator’s decision to impose some restrictions likely to inhibit the company’s growth and innovativeness. The NCA on June 8 declared MTN Ghana as a Significant Market Power (SMP), a status that has caused the NCA to impose special regulatory restrictions on the telecom leader. The National Identification Authority has described as inaccurate, statements made by former President John Mahama regarding the Ghana Card issuance across the country ahead of Tuesday’s voters’ registration exercise by the Electoral Commission.
