President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will address the nation tonight, June 28, 2020, in what will be his 13th update on the fight against coronavirus. It is expected that the address at 8:00pm will focus on measures taken by the government as final year junior high school (JHS) pupils return to complete academic work from Monday, June 29. In his 10th update to the nation, on Sunday, May 31, President Akufo-Addo announced a “phased approach” to easing of the restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the virus. He announced in that update that final year students of all tertiary institutions, both public and private, would resume to complete academic work from Monday, June 15. On the eve of the reopening, the president addressed the nation, and the students in particular, outlining the measures put in place to accommodate them. On the eve of reopening for final year senior high school (SHS) students last week, the president again addressed the nation. Therefore, Sunday night’s address is expected to outline the measures to be put in place at all JHSs across the country. So far, the heads of these basic institutions have pledged readiness and preparedness to reopen, in time for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). The president is also expected to unveil further measures as Ghana’s infections continue to rise by marginally high figures. This will be by Executive Instrument (EI) under the Imposition of Restrictions Act 2020, Act 1012. At the last count, a total of 597 cases were confirmed, the highest by far for the country. This has brought the total cumulative cases to 16,431 with 103 deaths so far. Already, mask-wearing is mandatory. By Emmanuel Kwame Amoh|3news.com|Ghana Follow @kwame_amoh]]>
