Ghana recorded 131 new cases of coronavirus on Friday bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 6,617. According to the Ghana Health Service, out of the 131 new cases, 81 infections were from the Greater Accra Region. Ashanti Region recorded 22 new cases, 10 new cases in the Central region, 13 new cases in the Western Region, 4 new cases in Western North, 1 in the Volta Region. The Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Edward Oduro-Kwarteng, has asked Ghanaians to take precautionary measures against the deadly coronavirus and not allow themselves to be misled about the existence of the disease. The main road that leads to the Effia-Nkwanta Government Hospital morgue in the Western Region has been closed to both vehicular and human traffic as a result of erosion. Portions of the road has been eroded and several efforts to get state authorities to fix the road have proven futile. The Hospital authorities had no option than to block the road to avert any accident. People have to inconveniently use alternate routes to get to the facility. Ghana Federation for Traditional Herbal Medicine Practitioners Association (GHAFTRAM) says it welcomes decision by government to examine Madagascar’s COVID-19 herbal in managing ailments of COVID 19 patients. A Pakistan International Airlines plane has crashed in Karachi on a flight from Lahore, aviation officials say. The plane, which was reportedly carrying around 99 passengers and eight crew, was flying from Lahore to Jinnah International Airport, one of Pakistan’s busiest airports. Richard Kofi Jordan, General Secretary of Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana, has said due to congestion in the various mortuaries across the country, dead bodies are made to stand in order to create space for more bodies. UK scientists are to begin testing a treatment that it is hoped could counter the effects of Covid-19 in the most seriously ill patients. It has been found those with the most severe form of the disease have extremely low numbers of an immune cell called a T-cell. T-cells clear infection from the body. The clinical trial will evaluate if a drug called interleukin 7, known to boost T-cell numbers, can aid patients’ recovery.
