Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway (MP) has taken delivery of COVID-19 medical supplies for Ghana and 17 other African countries. The items were presented to the Ghanaian Government on Monday, April 6, 2020, by the Chinese Government towards the fight against coronavirus. The National Identification Authority says it has not commissioned anyone or entity to recruit personnel on its behalf, describing a purported ongoing recruitment drive as a scam. Three Nigerian sex workers have been arrested and quarantined at Salaga in the Savannah Region. The East Gonja Municipal Covid-19 emergency response team is currently in a meeting to decide whether to keep them in Salaga for them to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine period or send them to Tamale, where they are believed to be based. Commercial banks in Ghana have announced a two per cent cut on cedi denominated loans as part of measures being taken to mitigate the financial impact of the deadly coronavirus on the public. A statement issued Monday by the Ghana Association of Bankers said the banks have agreed “to a general 200 basis points interest rate cut on all existing local currency denominated loans and for all new loans to be sanctioned by member banks”.
