The Finance Minister is to seek the approval of Parliament to spend one billion cedis under a Coronavirus Alleviation Programme to cushion Ghanaians as government tightens measures to control the spread of the deadly coronavirus. The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed a total of 137 cases of coronavirus in the country after a 42-year-old Ghanaian tested positive in the Upper West regional capital Wa. The National Identification Authority (NIA) has finally announced it is suspending the mass registration for the Ghana Card indefinitely in the Eastern region. Interestingly, the decision is coming at a time the High Court has given it the green light to proceed with the registration exercise, after the court dismissed a suit brought against it. The NIA had suspended the exercise pending this ruling, after the mass registration in the region was injuncted.
