The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has increased monthly pensions by 11 per cent for this year. This means that the minimum pension for new pensioners, beginning this month, is pegged at GH¢300 with those already on the SSNIT Pension Payroll as of December 31, 2019, who received a minimum pension of GH¢300 now having their pensions increased to GH¢357.18. Records at the Accident, Emergency and Orthopaedic Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital show that commercial motor (Okada) riders top the number of road traffic accident cases during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. On December 22 and 23, 2019 the Korle-Bu Hospital admitted 30 road traffic accident cases, out of which 20 were Okada related cases. The Ghana Audit Service is to begin the verification of all assets and liabilities declared by all public office holders in the country. Article 286 of the Constitution and Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act,1998 (Act 550) requires a certain category of public office holders to declare all properties or assets they owned as well as liabilities owed by them whether directly or indirectly. Lowest paid pensioners will this year receive 300 monthly while pensioners who received the minimum of 300 cedis monthly last year will now receive 357.18 cedis. Turkey’s parliament has passed a bill that will allow the government to deploy troops to Libya to intervene in the civil war. Turkish lawmakers passed the bill on Thursday, with 325 in favour to 184 against. Turkey is allied with Libya’s UN-backed government, which is based in the capital, Tripoli. An old woman who was reported missing at Anaji Brigade in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis of the Western Region has been found dead with some body parts removed. The naked body of the 77-year-old retired telephonist, Theresa Otoo, was discovered Thursday, January 2, 2020, nine days after her family reported to the police that she was missing. A Chicago-based Philanthropist, Eunice Cromwell, has officially launched her foundation upon providing free health screening and medication to scores of residents of Anomabo in the Central Region of Ghana. The Jemimah Noonoo Foundation provided free health screening and medication to over 500 people of Anomabo and its environs on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Anomobo Hospital.
