More than 6,000 Ghanaian junior police officers across have been promoted by the Inspector General of Police, COP James Oppong-Boanuh, to officers of various ranks. Police inspectors, sergeants, corporals, lance corporals and constables have effective January 1, 2020 been moved to their respective higher ranks within the Police Service, a statement from the Ghana Police said. The Airport District Police Command in the Ashanti Region is investigating a case of three missing laptops which were being used for the ongoing Ghana Card registration exercise. Officials of the National Identification Authority at one of the centres at Aboabo in the Asokore Mampong Municipality could not trace the laptops when they returned from the Christmas break. Police confirmed the incident and say they have been able to retrieve two of the laptops. Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has restored power to the Volta Aluminum Company Limited (VALCo) after disconnecting electricity supply to the Tema-based aluminum smelting firm on Monday, December 30, over a US$30 million debt. Nana Oppong Damoah, the Head of Communications and Public Affairs at the Energy Ministry, confirmed the restoration of power to VALCO on Tuesday. He said the Ministry was working to resolve the impasse that necessitated the action.
