The police have declared three persons wanted over the deadly robbery attack on Berekum Chelsea FC’s team bus last Sunday.
The three were named by suspect Mohammed Ahmed, who is said to be the gang leader.
Alias ‘I Can Do’, Mohammed Ahmed was arrested by a crack team of officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters, the Anti-Robbery Unit, CID Headquarters, the Ashanti South and the Ashanti Regional Commands in an intelligence-led operation.
He was arrested together with fellow suspect Gideon Bawa.
“Exhibits retrieved include a pistol with two rounds of .32 ammunition, eleven BB cartridges, a “blantine”, pepper spray, desert boots, assorted mobile phones and a black pullover,” the police said in a statement on Thursday, April 16.
“During interrogation, suspect Mohammed Ahmed admitted involvement in several robberies including the Nkawie robbery, the Fufuso mobile vendor attack and the attack on the Berekum Chelsea FC. He further mentioned accomplices identified as Dauda, Huefe and AT, who are currently on the run.”
Mohammed Ahmed is said to be receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital under police guard after sustaining injuries during the shootout while Gideon Bawa remains in custody assisting the investigations.
“The suspects Dauda, Huefe and AT have been declared wanted, and the Police are appealing to the public for information leading to their arrest.”
The police said while the remaining suspects are hunted for, the two will be arraigned before court to face the full rigours of the law.
They commended officers and men involved in the operation “for their relentless efforts and professionalism in apprehending the suspects”.
“The Command also thanks the public and community members for their cooperation and support, which contributed significantly to this breakthrough.”
