Bimbilla gate backs Togbe Sri III mediation process for peace

The Bangyili gate of Bimbilla has pledged commitment to ensuring that the Togbe Sri mediation process in the Bimbilla chieftaincy succession dispute achieves the needed results.

The family says Bimbilla has been lagging behind in development for years due to the insecurity in the area.

Addressing a press conference in Bimbilla, the spokesperson for the Bangyili gate, Gbei Naa Amadu Mustapha Zakari maintained that the gate will cooperate in any form for peace to be restored in Bimbilla.

He indicated that they do not understand why  President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is being accused of not enforcing the judgement of the Supreme Court as alleged by the Dasana gate.

  • Bimbilla faction rejects Akufo-Addo mediation move

He claims the Dasana gate has a hidden agenda to unnecessarily delay the performance of the funeral of the late Bimbilla Naa, Andani Dasana.

“The Dasana gate has a hidden agenda to unnecessarily delay the performance of the funeral of the late Bimbilla Naa and we will resist any diabolic plan fiercely,” he warned.

The Bangyili gate also condemned certain developments emanating from the Dasana faction of the chieftaincy succession dispute.

They said various allegations and accusations raised by the Dasana gate against the President and the Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed are baseless.

“Those allegations have the tendency of maligning the peace process initiated by the President”.

Gbei Naa cautioned the Dasana gate to stop blaming the NPP government because the murder of the late chief did not occur under the NPP regime.

He indicated that at no point in time did the President prevent the regent from exercising his powers consistent with the laws of Ghana, adding their claim is unwarranted.

“The Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed provided security 24/7 to the Dasana gate and also extended invitation to the regent who represented Nanung at the 62nd independence celebration in Tamale, so why tarnish his image?” he quizzed.

He applauded government for the bold initiative taken to bring lasting peace to Nanung.

He expressed hope that Togbe Sri with his rich experience will bring lasting peace through his mediation process.

Background

The succession dispute in Bimbilla started in 2003 after the final funeral rites of late Bimbilla Naa Abarka Attah.

Two contenders emerged and an intra-ethnic confusion erupted in the next gate to ascend the Bimbilla skin.

A petition was filed at the Supreme Court in 2014 by one of the factions, late Nakpa Naa salifu, against the legitimacy of Bimbilla Naa Andani Dasana after all other processes failed.

The Court in 2018 ruled in favour of the late Bimbilla Naa Andani Dasana as the legitimate chief of Bimbilla after his gruesome murder.
