One of the kidnapped women has been identified as Lauren

The Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has disclosed it took the Ghana National Security agencies only 25 minutes to complete the rescue operation of the two Canadian girls who were kidnapped in Kumasi.

They were rescued in the early hours of Wednesday, June 12 at Suwaba, a suburb of Kumasi.

According to an earlier statement issued by the Minister of Information, the two – 19 and 20 – were rescued following an operation led by National Security operatives.

“Details of the operation and ongoing efforts to ensure that similar incidents are successfully resolved will be made available in a subsequent press briefing scheduled for 15:00 hours today,” the statement indicated.

In the  press conference to provide more clarity on the matter, Mr. Nkrumah, narrated the sequence of actions taken by the police leading to the arrest of some eight suspects and  the subsequent rescue of the girls.

According to him, the eight suspects are made of five Ghanaians and three Nigerians.

He added the girls have since their rescue been flown to Accra and preliminary checks show that “they are fine”.

He urged the media and the general public to be circumspect in their commentary, warning any reckless commentary can compromise ongoing investigations into similar matters.
