People of Western Region on Friday showed love to a couple, whose 14-year-old dead son’s body had been kept at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital due to their inability to raise GH¢600 to settle medical bills incurred while he was on admission.
Host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson appealed to listeners to assist the couple to raise the said amount to be able to retrieve the body of their dead son.
Generous listeners donated a whopping GH¢5,600 to the cause.
According to the distressed father, David Ampiaw, 61, he was on his way to Accra to inform his family about a separate news of the death of his brother when he received a heartbreaking call about the death of his son.
“I was on my way to Accra to inform the family of the death of my brother when I had a call from my wife that our 14-year-old son who is in JHS 2 had passed away.
“It was very tough for me because I had no hope of getting money to bury two people at a go,” Mr. Ampiaw said.
According to him, the hospital had seized the body of his son, demanding that the family pays GH¢600 before it is released.
With nowhere to turn to, the father placed a distress call to Connect FM’s Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson about his plight.
In a quick response, Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson invited him to the studios of Connect FM and raised funds for the family.
Overwhelmingly, listeners donated a total of GH¢5,600.
The family will now be able to pay the hospital fees and other expenses.
“Words cannot express how delighted I am about this kind gesture by Connect FM and its listeners and also the people of Sekondi-Takoradi,” said Ernestina Owuraduwaa, mother of deceased son.
“May God bless each and everyone who donated to this cause.”
