The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, has directed all regional and district directors of the Service to recall staff who are on study leave back to post.
This takes immediate effect, a memo sighted by 3news.com ordered.
Dated March 26, 2020, the memo titled ‘Immediate Recall of All Staff on Study Leave’ noted that work load at the various health facilities has increased due to the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ghana.
What is worse, all training institutions have been closed down due to an earlier directive of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“There is therefore the urgent need for all staff to be at post in order to support in the management of affected persons,” the memo indicated.
“As a consequence of the above, all staff on approved study leave across all the regions are therefore recalled from their leave with immediate effect.”
So far, Ghana has recorded 136 case of the disease with 3 persons who had other underlying health conditions dead.
Isolation centres have been set up at major hospitals to cater for reported cases.
Thousands too are in quarantine.
