‘Dangerous Highway’ is a comprehensive road safety documentary that focuses on the George Walker Bush Highway in Accra six years after it was opened to the public.
The six-lane George Walker Bush Highway of 14.1 km links the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange to Mallam Junction.
The project was initiated in 2008 by then President John Agyekum Kufuor and completed in 2012.
It was completed under late President John Evans Atta Mills with $175 million funding from the United States government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation.
Exactly six years on, TV3’s Portia Gabor, the 2017 Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist of the Year, explores the project and makes bare the facts, the figures, the fond moments, the chills, the lamentations, the plights and pleas, the missing pieces and the way forward in this documentary.
The documentary comes at a time when the spate of road accidents has reached an alarming height.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo recently raised concerns about the spate of road accidents in the country and called on the stakeholder ministries to immediately devise a plan to mitigate the menace.
In a Facebook post, the president wrote:
