The much-anticipated meeting between the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) and the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) recommended by 21 eminent Ghanaians led by retired judge Emile Short will be held on Thursday, January 30.
The meeting was recommended by the Eminent Advisory Committee (EAC) after a crunch meeting with the Commission on Wednesday, January 15.
It is all about the compilation of a new voters’ register by the Commission, a move some political parties have come hard against.
Other parties including the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are in support of the intention by the Commission to compile the new register.
But dissenting political parties, which have come together to form the Inter-Party Resistance Against a New Voters’ Register (IPRNA), have taken their gripe onto the streets by demonstrating in various forms.
They have staged protests in Tamale, Wa, Bolgatanga and most recently Kumasi.
They have, however, suspended the series of demonstrations in response to the recommendation of the EAC.
Thursday’s meeting is expected to put paid to the wranglings over the decision by the Commission to compile the new register.
