Former Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Abraham Norman Nortey has announced his intention to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries for the Domeabra-Obom Constituency.
Nortey made the announcement in a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 29, declaring his ambition to represent the NDC in the constituency.
The post read: “Abraham Norman Nortey – Aspiring Parliamentary Candidate for Domeabra Obom Constituency. #NyameBɛyɛ #StrongerTogether #BuildingTheFuture.”
The announcement signals Nortey’s entry into parliamentary politics after years of involvement in student leadership, public health, and community development.
He is known for serving as SRC President at both the University of Health and Allied Sciences and the University of Cape Coast, becoming one of the few student leaders in Ghana to head the student representative councils of two public universities.
He also served as President of the Graduate School of Public Service and Governance at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and previously held a leadership position within the National Health Students’ Association of Ghana (NAHSAG).
Outside student leadership, Nortey is a public health practitioner, researcher, and founder of the Visionary Norman Foundation, a non-governmental organisation involved in educational support, health outreach, scholarships, and community-based interventions.
While he has not yet outlined his policy priorities or formally launched his campaign, his declaration has drawn attention within political and youth circles in the Domeabra-Obom Constituency.
The National Democratic Congress is expected to announce the timetable for its parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 general election.
Nortey’s declaration makes him one of the individuals seeking to lead the party in the constituency, subject to the party’s nomination process.
More details are expected to emerge as the party opens nominations and prospective aspirants begin their campaigns.
