The Chief Operations Officer of the Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO), Captain Abraham Adjetey, who doubles as a copyright expert, has said industry players in the entertainment fraternity don’t want to abide by laws.
Captain Abraham Adjetey, who was on Onua 95.1 FM’s entertainment talk show Anigye Mmre to talk about how musicians can come out with good lyrics, said, “In the western world they write all their sex lyrics and people enjoy it”.
“When it comes to our culture it is different, there are certain things our culture frowns on so musicians ought to be careful,” he said.
“Our musicians must know they are models to society so when a musician put together a narrative out in a way that will destroy society then they are not achieving any purpose,” he cautioned.
Captain Abraham told the host of the programme Christian Agyei Frimpong that, “some years ago, you can come out with a work and they can put NTB (Not To Be Broadcast), didn’t it work? Today we want to live in absolute freedom and it doesn’t work like that”.
“Our creative industry here does not want to be governed by laws, they want to talk anyhow, live anyhow, do their music anyhow, do their music anyhow, create their movies anyhow and do anything with absolute freedom.”
It will be recalled that Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in 2018 disclosed that persons in the creative industry will be taxed because they earned a lot in their respective careers.
Captain Abraham Adjetey went on to ask what came out of that decision.
He said industry players stood against that decision and government is ‘missing’ as far as that issue is concerned.
