Ghana will be hosting a high-level consultative conference on regional cooperation and security on Thursday and Friday, January 30.
The conference will be under the auspices of President John Dramani Mahama.
It will start with meetings of senior officials and ministers, according to a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It will, then, culminate in a summit of participating heads of state and government from the region.
The confab will discuss security and other related challenges affecting the region, including terrorism, violent extremism, transnational organised crime and maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea.
“It will provide the platform for the leaders to have consultations on the security and humanitarian situation in the region; review existing initiatives on peace, security and governance; discuss practical and sustainable frameworks for enhanced regional cooperation.
“The Consultative Conference also aims at renewing coordinated regional approaches and strenghthening collaboration through sustainable platforms for a peaceful, stable and prosperous region.”
