Ghana’s 4 X 100m relay teams at the ongoing IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha failed to make it to the final of their respective events.
The only positive is that the men’s and women’s team clocked their season’s best times.
The women were the first to take to the track with Flings Owusu-Agyapong starting it all for the team.
But their performance saw them finish last, failing to make Saturday’s finals.
The quartet of Flings, Gemma Acheampong, Persis William-Mensah and Hor Halutie had a reaction time of 0.143 and finished in 43.62s, only better than Brazil, who were disqualified.
Jamaica (42.11s) won the heat, the second of two, with Great Britain (42.25s) and China (42.36s) taking the automatic qualification places into the finals.
Germany and Italy, who placed 4th and 5th respectively, also made it through to the final, leaving Nigeria and Ghana in their trails.
The first heat saw the USA win in 42.46s with Trinidad & Tobago (42.75s) and Switzerland (42.82s) joining them into the finals.
Their season’s best time of 38.24s was only better than Turkey, who were disqualified, and Qatar, who did not start.
Ghana, however, finished just behind Jamaica, who failed for the first time in many years to make it to the finals.
Great Britain won the race in a world leading time of 37.56s with Brazil (37.90s) and USA (38.03s) following in that order.
South Africa won the other semi-final race in an African record of 37.65s. Asian nations Japan and China joined them into the final.
That race also produced finalists France and the Netherlands.
