Ghana has now officially recorded six cases of the coronavirus disease as of Sunday, March 15.
This was confirmed by the Head of Public Health of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Badu Sarkodie, at a press briefing on Sunday.
The new cases came in pairs just like the first two cases confirmed concurrently by the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research on Thursday, March 12.
On Friday, two additional cases were recorded while the other two were recorded on Saturday.
All the patients have been quarantined and are in a stable condition, Dr Sarkodie said.
The first case on Friday involved a Ghanaian, 56, who had travelled to the United Kingdom for 10 days but returned on Wednesday, March 4 to his base in Obuasi, Ashanti Region.
He showed symptoms on Thursday, March 12 and his blood samples were tested at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine and came out positive.
The second involved a Ghanaian student who had travelled to the US. She came back on Monday, March 9 but showed signs of Covid-19 on Friday, March 13. A test was run at Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research and was confirmed positive.
The case on Saturday were both confirmed by the University of Ghana-affiliated research institute.
The first involved a Ghanaian, 42, who had flown in to Ghana on Sunday, March 8 having travelled to Switzerland and the UK.
He showed symptoms on Monday, March 9.
The other case was reported at the Tema General Hospital on Saturday with fever and acute respiratory illness. The man, 41, had travelled to Germany and Turkey within the last 14 days.
Dr Sarkodie said they did not have symptoms on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport.
“All the six cases were imported into the country,” he stressed.
