Government has announced the first major decision on measures to ease Ghanaians from the effect of rising costs of fuel.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 15, government said it is absorbing GH¢2 per litre on diesel and GH¢0.36 on petrol.
“This intervention is intended to cushion customers and ease the cost burden on households, transport operators and business,” the statement signed by Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu said.
The measure is part of decisions approved by Cabinet at its meeting last Thursday.
It is in response to rising prices of petroleum products on the international market as a result of the Middle East conflict.
The intervention takes effect from Thursday, April 16.
“The temporary intervention will remain in force for a period of one (1) month.”
During this period, the statement said, government will closely monitor developments in the sector and assess the need for further policy adjustments.
It expressed commitment to maintaining price stability, protecting livelihoods, and supporting Ghana’s economic recovery in the face of external shocks.
