Pressure group Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK) has written to the Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) to probe two former appointees of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA).
The appointees – Eric Amoako Twum and Akilu Sajyibu – have been cited in the Auditor-General’s 2017 report for taking clothing allowances six months after they were relieved of their positions.
The report demanded a recovery of the amount, totaling GH¢23,562.
But STRANEK says receiving monies while out of office is a breach of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act 2017 (Act 959).
“For taking monies to which they were not entitled, it is our considered view that they have acted in a manner that is corrupt.”
The petition, dated July 1, 2019, also disclosed that the two took their official laptops, Apple MacBook Pros, “and they have not returned it”.
“It is important to kindly note that, one of the former deputy CEOs took GH¢54,340 for soft furnishing despite receiving $60,000 as two years rent allowance in May 2017.”
That has already been described inappropriate by the Auditor-General’s report.
“We kindly hope a logical conclusion will be brought on our petition,” concluded the petition jointly signed by Executive Director Nii Tettey Tetteh and Director of Policy and Political Affairs Emmanuel Osei.
