The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has served notice an appeal has long been filed against the Court of Appeal judgement on the jailing of former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Center (MASLOC) Sedina Tamakloe Attionu.
On Thursday, the Court of Appeal discharged and acquitted Ms Tamakloe Attionu, who had been extradited by a US district court to face her 10-year jail term.
She was sentenced in absentia after travelling to the US for medical reasons during trial, and never returned until after judgement.
Addressing journalists at the Meet The Press series, Dr Ayine acknowledged the decision by the Court of Appeal but indicated that an appeal has long been filed.
“I want this to be made abundantly clear that it was my predecessor who filed the appeal,” he told the press.
“However, coming into office, I reviewed what was filed and I directed the Director of Public Prosecution to file a motion opposing the appeal because we believe the High Court judgement had merit.”
Sedina Tamakloe had been charged with conspiracy, wilfully causing financial loss to the state amounting to more than GH¢90 million, and stealing during her tenure as MASLOC CEO.
