Kan Dapaah must resign – Security Analyst

Security Analyst Adib Saani has descended heavily on the Minister of National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, for a widely circulated video of him in a raunchy chat with a lady believed to be his girlfriend.

The Executive Director of Jatikay Centre for Human Security & Peace Building argues that if Mr Kan Dapaah could be easily set up by a lady and exposed in such fashion, “the probability of him getting compromised is certainly high”.

In the video, the Minister was asked by the lady to show her what he was wearing, a move many find compromising to a minister of state.

“The implications are dire,” Adib Saani said in a statement on Monday.

“In the past, a lot of Ghanaians perceive the National Security architecture as a mysterious institution with well-trained agents you could not beat.

“With this act, even the criminals wouldn’t take us seriously.”

He expressed worry that “this carelessness could transcend into other actions that could compromise the security of the state”.

To him, the National Security Minister has brought “disrepute” and “shame” to the ministry.

“His continuous stay will mean a perpetuation of gross incompetence and ineptitude.”

The security analyst raised concerns with the appointment of chief capos in the country, saying most of the appointments are politically motivated rather than based on core proficiency.

He said Mr Kan Dapaah, for instance, lacked key competence to be appointed a National Security Minister.

“Kan Dapaah is a Chartered Accountant with no experience or academics in security except for when he was appointed interior minister under President Kufuor. He lacks the expertise to deal with a myriad of challenges within the security space including the issue of illiterate party foot soldiers holding Gota phones and parading themselves as National Security agents. Some of them exhibit unprofessionalism and even blow their cover by introducing themselves as agents when they should be operating covertly.”

He said the president must – without delay – revoke the appointment of Mr Kan Dapaah if he doesn’t voluntarily resign.
