The Kumasi metro education directorate has bemoaned the low turnout of new entrants to kindergarten.
Metro director, Martha Owusu Agyemang, entreated parents and guardians to send their wards to school to complement the government’s effort of making education free from basic to senior high level.
The metro education director, together with officials from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, visited some schools in the metropolis to welcome pupils stepping foot in the classroom for the first time.
They first visited the Ahmadiyya Primary A at Asafo which had the highest number of enrollment and yet they were less than ten pupils.
Other schools include Al-Tawjeeh Islamic school, Akosa M/A primary, Kwadaso Estate M/A primary and African Faith primary.
The officials interacted with the children before distributing some education materials to them. 
Martha Owusu-Agyemang was not impressed with the turn-out of new entrants.
“The enrolment for the first day is not encouraging. Parents sometimes have an attitude of delaying in registering their wards on the first day. We therefore intend discussing with the head teachers to open admission and registration of new entrants a week before reopening of school to address the issue”
Kumasi metro coordinating director, Samuel Donkor shared similar concern.
He advised parents to ensure they send their wards to school on time for a brighter future.
