Lizzy Sports Academy was at the weekend crowned champions of the first ever Skyboom FC Open Football tournament held at the Oyarifa Doga Football Park.

The Academy boys defeated Division One campaigners Phar Rangers 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 drawn game in regulation time.

En route to the finals Lizzy Sports Acadmey defeated GHC FC 1-0 in their opening game before thrashing Royal Success FC 4-1 in the second game. They, however, lost their final group game 1-0 to Krystal Palace.

But they continued their championship quest by beating Royal Life FC 1-0 quarter finals and recorded the same scoreline against Krystal Palace in the semi-finals before the Phar Rangers final.

Fair play team of the tournament Skyboom FC took the third spot with a 1-0 defeat of Krystal Palace.

Skipper Evans Adomako of Phar Rangers FC was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament, the Golden Boot went to Michael Adebayor of Lizzy Sports Academy while the Best Goalkeeper Award was received by Daniel Opoku of Inter Millas FC.

Rudolph Boateng of Kitase Action Boys FC picked the Young Promising Player Award while Ramona Paul of Kitase Action Boys FC took the Best Coach award.

FIFA accredited agent and scout Said Hadjarab, who supervised the tournament, expressed satisfaction at the general organisation and the output of the talents that were on display and noted his readiness to work with the very best of players that were selected by a team of technical heads.

“My technical team have penciled down a list of players that will travel to France for further trials and in the coming days we will announce the selected players that will make the trip.”

President of Skyboom FC Obed Okpoti Sorsey expressed delight at the massive turn-out and the talent that were on display, noting that the selected players are trainable ones who when given the opportunity and the stage can make a name for themselves and the country as a whole.

Due to the massive turn-out and the desire of the scout to watch more players, Mr. Sorsey revealed that he will hold yet another tournament in six months’ time to offer the scouts more opportunities to have a look at other talents.
