Ghana coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has named his first Black Stars squad to face Sudan on March 27 at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Social media was buzzing as soon as the squad was announced and four home-based players made the cut.
Aduana Stars’ Yahaya Mohammed is in the spotlight given his performance in the Ghana Premier League this season.
He has scored 11 goals in 12 matches and has two Man of the Match awards to his name.
His ability to terrorize defenders and produce a master class week in-week out earned him the player of the month award.
Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richard Attah and Ashanti Gold’s Kwadwo Amoako, who got their first call-up, will put up a performance to cement a place in the team.
The presence of many home based players has delighted many followers of the game here.
Journalist Felix Romark tweeted:
From a defender to a midfielder now a striker. 🔟 goals in 12 Ghana Premier League games. Black Stars call up well deserved @MomoYahaya11 pic.twitter.com/51yftFuLnS

Coach Isaac Opeele Boateng also tweeted:
Richard Attah of @HeartsOfOakGH scored two goals in division one for planners with 14 clean sheet in 2015, on to Sharks and to Hearts
Hardwork is the reason he is in the Black Stars squad after Sammy Adjei in over 10 years. Phobians please shower him some accolades and retweets pic.twitter.com/zwyUV1S3PL

However, Black Stars assistant coach David Duncan stated that little room will be provided for the local players.
“The challenge we have is the fact that our league is still young so we should not make it too much of our expectation for them to get into the senior national team.”
Whilst others are commending C.K Akonnor for a good squad, others do not see eye to eye with him.
The absence of Valladolid defender Salisu Mohammed has been one of the biggest talking points given the fact that the 20-year-old has been on top of his game this season.
The defender has made more clearances more than any U-20 player in the Europe’s Top 5 league’s this season and has been not just a standout Ghanaian defender but player in Europe too.
