The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., has undertaken a night monitoring exercise at selected petroleum depots in Tema to assess the progress of the pilot phase of the 24-Hour Economy Programme in the downstream petroleum sector.

Mr Tameklo, accompanied by key stakeholders including the Lead for Energy at the 24 Hour Authority, Roland Azuguvu; Director for the 24 Hour Programme at the Ghana Police Service, ACP Benjamin Ania; Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Asiedu; and representatives from the National Security Council Secretariat and the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Customs Division, engaged operators and staff of the facilities on the implementation of the initiative.

The team was briefed on the impact of the extended operational hours since the commencement of the pilot programme.

Operators reported increased productivity, expanded workforce, additional work shifts, higher volumes of petroleum products handled and improved revenue generation as a result of the initiative.

However, they highlighted the need for enhanced lighting systems and improved security arrangements at the facilities.

The pilot programme, which covers 247 retail outlets, 11 depots and two refineries, aims to assess the feasibility of extended working hours in the downstream petroleum sector.

It is also designed to evaluate facility readiness in areas such as infrastructure, workforce capacity, security, and regulatory compliance, while generating data on employment, revenue, demand, and service delivery to guide the broader implementation of the 24-hour economy policy.
