Tinkaro Asare Osei is the President of NUGS

President of the National Union of Ghana Students Tinkaro Asare Osei has been appointed by the Commonwealth Students’ Association to be the representative of the Commonwealth Association in Ghana.

The Commonwealth Students Association (CSA) unifies and embodies the needs and aspirations of national student councils and other student organisations in the Commonwealth.

It was launched in 2012 at the 18th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (18CCEM) in Mauritius, where student leaders gathered to make recommendations on the current issues in education and strengthen their role in the Commonwealth’s education sector.

The main aims of the CSA are “to promote unity among student organisations in Commonwealth countries; to protect the rights of Commonwealth students and to contribute actively to the development of student movements; and to create an environment for student unions and student movements to build their respective and collective capacities, to freely express and advocate”.

It plays an instrumental role in the planning of the Commonwealth Students Congress, the largest gathering of students across the Commonwealth.

Tinkaro Asare, President of NUGS, in a short statement on his Facebook wall stated that he “is delighted with the new responsibility and mandate to serve as the Ghana ‘s representative to the Commonwealth Students Association and gives glory to God for the favour and also to Miss. Eleanor Klinogo, Africa and Europe Representative of the Commonwealth Youth Council and Comrade Marwan Umar Gwamba, Africa and Europe Representative of the Commonwealth Students Association for the opportunity to serve and again to all students of Ghana for their continuous show of love and support.

“My duty as  a  Country  Representative will be to lead national  projects  and  represent the  interests  of  the  CSA  amidst  students  in Ghana, work at contributing to enhancing the welfare,  amplify  the  voice  and  protecting  the  rights  of  students  working  hard  for  a  brighter  future.

“I will be engaging with National  Students  organisations  in Ghana and  Students Unions  to  defend  the  right  of  Students  through  legal  means and also to  implement  the  objectives  of  CSA.”

Tinkaro envisages one of his duties will be to bring the tenets and principles of the Commonwealth Students Association for students across Ghana, create the necessary opportunities for and to get them informed with all opportunities that comes with it.

He intends to ensure every university in the country has a competent representative to propagate the idea of the Commonwealth Students’ Association and to advocate and promote better living conditions and a quality life.

The appointment of Tinkaro has come with much joy and delight among students leaders in the country since they believe that his competency in running NUGS in spite of its many challenges, his humility, honesty, caring and accessible qualities as a leader will ensure that students of Ghana benefits from the exposure that he will be given with such an appointment.
