Rains in the early hours of Tuesday, June 9 has wreaked havoc in some parts of the nation’s capital with many counting their losses.
From the trade hub at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, our reporter Adwoa Addobea Owusu indicated how most of the traders there were trying to salvage what was left after the downpour Tuesday morning.
The head of the traders at the Pedestrian Shopping Mall said the Odaw River was overflowing its banks even before the rains came down on Tuesday.
He said the River needs immediate desilting.

In Kwashiebu, a fence wall was broken down by the force of the floods.
The issue of floods in Accra has become perennial with successive governments promising tenure-in-tenure-out to solve the challenge.
Most of the measures adopted by these governments to fight the yearly occurrence has been desilting of major drains.
On a tour to get communities to get involved in this year’s exercise, Minister of Works and Housing Samuel Atta Akyea said Ghana must rather go to the capital/bond market to raise about $10 million to construct a subterranean drainage system.
“I am of the humble view that in the long run, constructing subterranean drains would pay off instead of the country having to pay more money for the yearly desilting of drains and gutters,” he stated.
